usagi will teach you! how to lose weight (s1/e4)

In this episode Usagi confronts the very dangerous notion that you have to be thin to be pretty! I watched the dubbed version of this episode (Slim City) and I have a feeling that the Japanese version was a lot less body positive. Fun facts: (1) This episode was banned in Sweden due to parental complaints, and (2) according to a Dove sponsored study of 118 countries, Japanese women have the lowest self-esteem concerning their appearance. Usagi gains half a pound and totally freaks out and joins Tokyo's new gym which is actually (surprise!) the Negaverse's new energy sucking scheme. Still, Ms. H is looking totally bomb in her super 80's fitness get-up.

What a babe! Since the majority of this episode's outfits were super duper 80's aerobics clothes, I decided to dedicate this style set to Sailor Moon inspired athletic gear! Before you check out the style set though you need to check out Usagi's cutest hairstyle yet - I wonder if there's a tutorial online? And here's a bonus screen cap of Luna's drawing of Usagi that apparently did not require thumbs to create... and I don't know about you but I'd love to be to see a Sailor Chubby Moon! That would be awesome... speaking of body image in Japan, check out their newest budding fashion community: Marshmallow Girls

Thanks as always for reading!

punish them! the house of fortune is the youma mansion (s1/e2)

In this episode we're introduced to the lavishly designed "House of Fortune", owned by the mysterious "beauty of Juubangai" - who, if you haven't guessed, is actually a hideous Negaverse monster disguised as a super stunning and stylish psychic. Balm (as she is known in the Negaverse) has super amazing makeup and is definitely the best dressed character of this episode!

I also want to call attention to the really cute pair of shoes that Usagi wears in this episode! I liked them so much I made an effort to find a few similar pairs (from Marc Jacobs and Trotters respectively).

This shoe/sock combo would look amazing with pretty much any skirt I can think of! (PS, these are the cutest, softest and whitest crew socks I've found anywhere)

Note on style set: Though not fully shown in the screen cap, Balm is wearing a long caftan - her shoes aren't shown so I chose a few pairs I thought would match her gypsy-like style.

mysterious sleeping illness! protect the girls' hearts in love (s1/e3)

In this episode the Negaverse comes up with a sinister plot to drain human energy from the love-struck ladies of Tokyo, including Usagi's teacher Ms. Haruna! They start a radio show called Midnight Zero that reads listeners' anonymous love letters on-air. Listeners who are lucky enough to have their letter chosen receive a "romantic gift" in the mail which is actually an energy-sucking, sleep-inducing device disguised as a suspiciously gaudy brooch.

Usagi's "sophisticated talent agent" disguise gets her into the recording studio unnoticed, and totally takes the cake for best outfit of the episode (not to mention her short hair looks amazing)!

Adorable, right? Still, I can't ignore Flau (the Negaverse monster of this episode), whose Grecian-inspired outfit is a fabulous piece of formal wear inspiration.

Note on style sets below: Usagi's outfit includes a maroon colored skirt, and Flau's shoes are never shown so I opted for something Grecian-inspired.

crybaby usagi's magnificent transformation (s1/e1)

In this episode we meet Usagi Tsukino, a cumbersome "crybaby" whose only talent is falling asleep really fast. Usagi discovers a magical talking cat named Luna , who informs her she is destined to be Sailor Moon! Despite this being Usagi's big break, this episode's best outfit can be attributed to Usagi's best friend at school: Naru Osaka.

Unfortunately, the only screencaps I could get of Naru's adorable outfit feature a haggard demon attempting to throttle her to death.

Sans the soul sucking she-beast, this outfit is a perfect summertime office ensemble or whimsical date look! Unfortunately we can't get a look at her shoes, but I'm going to assume they match the skirt and the bow. I added a pair of Naru-esque earrings in the style set below since Naru's mom is the owner of Tokyo jewelry store OSA-P, where Sailor Moon's first ever battle takes place!
